Daisy

~ Driving Miss Daisy 🌼 ~

You’ll frequently see me mention Daisy, my 2013 Volkswagen Beetle, on this blog. Daisy is my 1st car and I love her more than she knows. This post is dedicated to how our journey started.

The summer before my senior year of college, my family and I decided it was the right time for me to get a car. I’d always loved Beetle’s and felt that the car fit my personality perfectly, but Beetle’s were hard to come by for an affordable price with low mileage. Volkswagen stopped making Beetles in 2019, so many Beetles on the market were insanely priced. We saw some going for over $30,000 during our search. We were looking to stay under $13,000 out-the-door with no more than 45,000 miles. It was fairly easy to find Beetles within our price range, but much harder to find ones that our mileage requirement. My dad was leaning more towards me getting a Corolla or Civic, but I loved the Beetles so much we came to an agreement that for the right price and mileage, we could make getting a Beetle happen. Plus my mom always stressed to me that I should focus on what I want, so I did just that and set my sights on a Beetle. For around 2 months, myself, my papa, my dad, and my sister looked tirelessly on car lots and Facebook Marketplace for the perfect Beetle.

One faithful day in July, my older sister found a pretty white Beetle with tan leather and 40,000 miles for $11,500. We immediately messaged the sellers and set up a time to go see her. My older sister lives in Tampa, FL and it just so happened that we were visiting my sister the weekend she found Daisy on marketplace. We went and saw Daisy and it was love at first sight. To be over 10 years old, she didn’t look it! Her previous mom was entering a new phase of her life as she was entering a nursing home and was no longer able to drive. Her previous mom had named her Dottie (after her puppy) and asked me what I planned to name her. Daisy was the obvious choice for a couple of reasons: 1) Daisy is white with pretty tan leather, similar to a white Daisy with a yellow center 2) My name, Jasmine, is a flower and I wanted to keep the flower theme going.

We came back the next weekend and officially bought Daisy and took her home. It was on this day, she began her 2nd act with her new mom! Since coming home, she’s gotten a few upgrades with eyelashes and a brand new radio with a backup camera. We are now living our best lives in college, out-and-about every weekend shopping and running errands. I am also obsessed with anything that has Daisies on it and constantly looking for Daisy accessories. So far, I have a pair of Daisy earrings, a necklace, tote bag, keychain, and throw blanket.

Daisy’s birthday is July 12th, 2024 and I can’t wait to throw her a Daisy-themed birthday party for her 1st birthday! I will definitely make a post showing all the decorations for the occasion.
